Jak pomóc w sprawie Roberta Dziekańskiego

Pani Danuta Tokarczuk z Polskiego Towarzystwa "Zgoda" z Vancouver nadesłała nam zdjęcie zrobione w biurze PT "Zgoda". Pani Margaret (Peg) Mercer jechała do biura 2 godziny autobusami, aby przekazać czek na kwotę 25 dolarów dla Pani Zofii Cisowski, matki Roberta Dziekańskiego. Pani Margaret jest niewidoma.

PETYCJE

Na portalu Facebook moża podpisywać petycję w sprawie stosowania paralizatorów.

Także:

http://newsnet.ca/phpPETITION/index.php

Oto pytania petycji:

We need answers from our Government!!!

1) Is it a standard procedure for RCMP (fully loaded with other restraining devices and bullet proof vests) to surround and attack citizens with a taser without obvious threat ?

2) Is it a standard procedure for RCMP to create misleading public announcements as to what happened ?

3) Is it a standard procedure for RCMP personnel not to provide basic CPR to a helpless dying individual ?

4) How are citizens of this nation with emotional distress or panic attacks currently protected from being tasered ?

5 )Canadian citizens are in danger now, it is clearly evident that enforcement agencies are now using deadly taser devices as a convenience tool and are breaking the rules of law.

6) We should not wait until enquiries and probes get completed with recommendations by various agencies, including RCMP.

LISTY

Listy do polityków wystosował zarząd Główny KPK i wiele organizacji polonijnych.

Dobrym pomysłem jest także pisanie listów przez osoby indywidualne i wysyłanie ich do polityków, mediów, RCMP, a także na lotnisko w Vancouver.

Oto dwa listy, które chcemy Państwu zaprezentować:

This is a cry for better treatment of Canadian immigrants in airports. Please try to help somehow. Please send this to those who can make a difference.

I am writing to voice what has been eating me alive for weeks and after seeing the video of Robert Dziekanski, a Polish immigrant, being tasered to death tonight, in a Vancouver airport, I am fueled with anger that I
believed I would never have towards Canada. This is an outrage, I must say, this has been the ultimate disappointment, Canada has let me down.

I thought we were a country that "Welcomed". How dare Canada show such disrespect towards people who are the future of Canada, our economy, identity, reputation. Take into consideration the past, Irish came to Canada during the potato famine in Ireland and took on jobs here that no
one else would take on, for fear they were too dangerous, unhealthy, or just too hard. Or what about the Chinese, who built our Canadian Pacific Railway which is a symbol of Canadian unity. These people helped mold Canada into what it is today. These immigrants still make their way here
today, for opportunities, education, a place to call home. They take on crappy factory jobs or extremely hard labour. Imagine taking all of the Chinese in Canada and sending them home, imagine taking the Irish home, and the Spanish, and the Japanese, Canada would drowned.

We are all immigrants here, whether we realize it or not, we need to consider that if it was not us personally who came here by plain or boat, our ancestors (family) did. We all have a direct or indirect relationship with what has happened in Vancouver on October 13th, because it could have happened to anyone of us. Tired, frustrated,
hungry, language barrier, and worst of all, no help, how can we live with ourselves. And who is to blame, security? I thought security has increased a HUGE deal since 9/11? Well if this is proof of how much security has improved since then, we are looking at another 9/11.

I am Joanna Kuczynski, a Wilfrid Laurier University student in Waterloo, Ontario, and a Polish immigrant myself. I came here in 1989 (I was 4) so I do not remember much of my first Canadian boarder experience. The look in my parent's eyes as we sat and watched Robert tasered to death was
heart breaking. (Can a stress again, TASERED, not once, but 4 times). Tears ran down both of their faces. After the airing of Robert's story I asked what their experience was like, they both said, "Unpleasant", my mom walked away and my dad changed the channel in silence. Is this how
Canadian citizens are supposed to remember their first steps in the 'better world', and if my parents say it was unpleasant, and clearly Robert's experience was too, there are hundreds and thousands of other immigrants who would say the same thing.

Well I'll tell you, if it's anything like coming home from a 3 month vacation overseas than I can only imagine what it's like for those who do not speak English, "unpleasant", to say the least.

May I suggest something?

Airports need translators, this is 2007, we have been flying men to Mars and the moon for decades, yet we haven't thought of putting translators in airports, especially in immigrations? ODD.

My deepest sympathy goes out to Zofia Cisowski and her family, and I hope she gets some closure from our "home and native land".

Thanks a lot

What happened at Vancouver's airport doesn't look on the video like an intervention, but as an insensible attack on an innocent man. The police seemed to have totally overreacted against a helpless man, who may have been sweating and sounded incomprehensible to Canadian officials, but who after a very long travel may have been sleep-deprived and totally exhausted, both physically and emotionally. Human body may react in so many ways to physical exhaustion. Robert Dziekanski must have spent at least 15 (?) hours travelling between Poland and Vancouver, and then he spent several more hours between his arrival in Vancouver at 4 pm and his death past midnight. Did he have anything to drink or eat that would prevent dehydration and keep his blood sugar level ok? When was the last time he slept? His body must have been reacting to stress and fatigue but the signs may have been totally misread by incompetent officials and police. The more I think about the situation the more I believe that the complete lack of professionalism and total indifference of the Vancouver's Airport personnel and immigration officers may have led to Robert's tragic death. Why wasn't he offered a language interpreter? Why was his mother being pushed with indifference from one information point to another, which only proves the system to be totally incompetent! Why was she not given prompt service by the Vancouver airport officials in the first place? Why wouldn’t anyone at the immigration checkpoint make any announcement over PA system and ask her to report to immigration office to pick up her son while his papers were being processed, as if this PA technology was not available in the 21st century! It seems that it was not only the police who brought the tragic end to a helpless, exhausted, unarmed, innocent man, but the cold-blooded, unprofessional and indifferent bureaucracy. And lastly, why do we have to wait 2 years for the result of the autopsy, as one of the police officials was heard as saying on the CBC lately? Is this a joke!

Thanks to Paul Pritchard for standing up bravely to the police and recording these tragic last minutes that led to Robert Dziekanski's pointless death. Let's just hope that the Canadian justice system will make good use of it and turn this tragedy into something positive.
