This once-dark city is becoming the darling of Europe

Since the fall of the Iron Curtain nearly three decades ago, Poland has embraced Western-style capitalism with open arms. During the last 25 years, the country has been growing at a fast clip, with per capita income doubling over that time. More recently Poland, which joined the European Union in 2004, managed to avoid a crippling recession while the rest of Europe sputtered.
